Grand National Festival 2023 Tips – Day 2

Aintree Sefton CHase

Written By Rich Mawer

Rich has been in horse racing since a small boy growing up in Yorkshire and heading to the Malton open days. At University Rich shared a house with a bookmakers son for 3 years, in that time he learned how to read form, course stats, use speed ratings and price up a card. In 1996 Rich went full-time with his betting, then with the advent of Betfair in 2002 Rich switched to the exchanges, learning to trade and lay horses.

Well a cracking start to the Grand National Festival 2023 with SHISHKIN making amends for Cheltenham, staying on really well to grab Ahoy Senor and win for us and a max 4pt bet too, so returning 8pts profit. More Grand National Festival Tips 2023 below ๐Ÿ™‚

On to today and Day 2 has four Grade 1 races, but I am not going to be opposing Gerri Colombe in the first and will focus on the other three races.

2:55 Top Novices’ Hurdle – 2m

A cracking wide open renewal this year and a few horses on winning runs in Hullnback and Altobelli, plus a Henderson horse in Luccia looking to bounce back after a disappointing 4th at Cheltenham and with every chance returning to a flatter track. The two Irish horses in Found A Fifty and Inthepocket are also strong contenders from powerhouse stables. My selection is going to be ALTOBELLI from Hary Fry, who offers good value and is taken to build on a demolition job at Carlisle in February when he won by 25 lengths and looked ready for this step up.

SELECTION: ALTOBELLI – 1pt each way at 10/1

The Chair at Aintree Racecourse

3:30 MarSh Chase – 2m 4f

A great clash of some top class chasers and Pic D’Orhy finished ahead of Fakir D’oudairies in the Ascot Chase, but was beaten 16 lengths behind Shishkin and far from fluent. I backed Hitman who ran well in the Ryanair at the Festival finishing 3 lengths behind Envoi Allen, only a neck behind Shishkin and that form gives him every chance here today, again he makes too many mistakes though to trust. So I am going to back FAKIR D’OUDAIRIES who has made this race his own, winning the past two renewals of this race and coming alive here, so I fancy he can do the same today.

SELECTION: FAKIR D’OUDAIRIES – 2pts to win at 9/4

4:40 SEFTON NOVICES’ HURDLE – 3m

The novices stayers race of the meeting and although I backed Stay Away Fay at 20/1 at Cheltenham I do not see him following up here, with strong competition from horses such as Absolute Notions who was staying on well over 2m 6f at Leopardstown in February when 2nd and looks to have been laid out for this race specifically. At a price the one I really fancy is GREY DAWNING for the Skelton’s, he is 10/1 and looks great value after his Warwick Grade 2 win when he showed he has plenty of stamina and is another who has been saved for this race.

SELECTION: GREY DAWNING – 1pt each way at 10/1

Enjoy Day 2 and if you have time check out my Lay Systems which have given me 3 lays per day this week. I have also been using my unique approach to trading that I share in my 6 Weeks Trading Training to maximise my profit each day and leverage the volumes of money going through Betfair.
