A stunning start to yesterday with Stage Star landing at 11/1 before a disappointing run by Shishkin in 2nd in the Ryanair and then Teahupoo finishing 2nd in the Stayers Hurdle, still a winner and two 2nds sets us up. On to today and the climax of the week with the Cheltenham Gold Cup. I’ve got three more selections to finish off the week. 1:30 JCB Triumph Hurdle – 2m 1f

Willie Mullins has nearly half the field in this year’s Triumph Hurdle and Lossiemouth looked pretty unstoppable until Leopardstown last month when beaten by Gala Marceau, who reversed the form on their previous meeting, it will be interesting to see which of the two comes out on top today. However, I am going to go for BLOOD DESTINY who will love the ground and any repeat of his run at Fairyhouse in January when he won by 18 lengths will see him difficult to stop.

2:50 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle – 3m

A competitive Albert Bartlett this year and Paul Nicholl’s Stay Away Fay has done little wring and looks a big price at 20/1, so I would put a small each way bet on him, proven over the trip and will be fine on the ground. Corbetts Cross is another who will relish the conditions and looked comfortable when stepped up to 3m in January at Fairyhouse, he has recently switched trainers to Emmet Mullins and looks set to run a big race today. However, my selection has to be Gordon Elliott’s THREE CARD BRAG who has been bred for this trip and the way he won at Fairyhouse in January over 2m 4f beating Willie Mullins Spanish Harlem by 12 lengths and pulling away, shows he could be some horse over this trip today.

3:30 Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase – 3m 2f

One of the most interesting renewals for a number of years with A Plus Tard returning to the scene of his 15 length demolition of the field last year, but the manner of his run in the Betfair Chase at Haydowck in November when he never really travelled and was eventually pulled up raises serious questions. Galopin Des Champs was so unlucky to fall at the last in the Turner’s Novices Chase and since then he has won all three of his races including the Irish Gold Cup last month by 8 lengths, he still has to prove he can do it over this trip and in these conditions, so I am going to go for Paul Nicholl’s BRAVEMANSGAME who won the King George in fine style on Boxing Day and has been put away since, in preparation for this race, everything could fall right for him to put it to the Irish challengers and there is no doubts over trip and conditions for him, he is also a decent price for an each way bet.
