18.02.10 – Selections

Well some pretty weak racing around today, so plenty of Lay Selections for us to get stuck into and only the one back bet.

Back Bet:

2:35  Ffos Las  Taffy Thomas 2pt e/w at 7/1 – made steady progress on the gallops and had a good win in similar conditions last time out, expected to run well today.

Lay Bets:

3:10 Ffos Las – Shaking Hands  – 8.4 currently on Betfair

3:45 Ffos Las – Raise You Five – 6.4 currently on Betfair

3:55 Kelso – Editors Rose – 9.8 currently on Betfair

4:05 Southwell – Where’s Reilly – 6.0 currently on Betfair

4:55 Ffos Las – Fundamentalist – 4.4 currently on Betfair

5:00 Kelso – Miss Abbey – 4.5 Currently on Betfair

5.25 Ffos Las – Odd Job – 7.2 currently on Betfair

As there are 7 lays in total keep a close eye on the markets and any signs of market confidence and shortening in price do not lay. Otherwise have a great day.

N.B I have just finished a new training video on How to set your staking levels for back bets and also covered in detail staking on Lay bets, as I have had alot of emails from people asking how to do this – it should be up today – enjoy.

Rich you say “I suggest you get an early price on Betfair for these lays at around 1:00pm” . What do you mean for “get an early price”? Must I Place a bet at 1:00 pm” or simply i must take a look at the prices ?
thank you …
Emilio.

Emilio,

I have put up the early prices now on my selections.

To clarify – sometimes when I look at the early prices on Betfair – the market has not formed properly, i.e not enough money has been traded to make the early price reliable. So it pays to take a price a little nearer to the race as your early price.

No – do not place a lay bet on the early price, just make a note of it for reference later. We only place our Lay bet in the last couple of minutes before the start of the race, so we can watch te price of our selection carefully – if the price shortens as money comes for our selection this is a strong indicator of market confidence and a likely strong run.

So we do not Lay the selection and in many cases if the price on our selection shortens by over 25% it is a profitable strategy to back the selection for 2 points to win. This comes with experience though – the safest approach at present is to simply listn to the warning that the market is giving us and not lay the horse.

I hope this clears this up for you,

Rich
